Who I Am
In 1995, I established my own studio, where I've had the pleasure of conceiving and bringing to life numerous projects. From intimate domestic customized commissions to larger projects for churches, restaurants, schools, commercial centers, and restorations, my work has spanned a wide spectrum of creative expression.
Growing up in Caracas Venezuela from a family of accomplished painters like my mother and brother, art runs deep in my veins. I initiated this journey into stained glass in my early 20s when I had the privilege of being mentored by the Cuban artist, Lorenzo Cuesta. From there, I embarked on a path of continuous learning and growth, collaborating with and learning from other renowned mentors like the Venezuelan art master Leonel Duran, who introduced me into the glass painting technics.
In my studio, I've delved into more intimate techniques such as lamp making, with a focus on the timeless designs of Louis Comfort Tiffany. Additionally, I've explored various other stained-glass crafts, constantly pushing the boundaries of my creativity and skill.
Join me on this enchanting journey through the luminous world of stained glass, where every piece tells a story, and every creation is infused with the depth of my experience and the warmth of my passion.
Techniques
-
Copper Foil (Tiffany )
This technique involves wrapping each piece of glass with a thin strip of copper foil and soldering the pieces together along the seams. Copper foil allows for intricate and detailed designs, making it well-suited for smaller, more delicate projects like lampshades and sun catchers.
-
Lead Came
In this traditional method, pieces of glass are fitted into H-shaped strips of lead called came and soldered at the joints. Lead came is thicker and sturdier than copper foil, making it ideal for larger panels and windows with straight lines and simpler shapes. This technique is commonly used in architectural stained glass and church windows.
-
Glass Painting
Glass painting involves applying specially formulated paints or enamels onto the surface of the glass to create detailed designs, shading, and color effects. Artists use brushes, airbrushes, or other tools to apply the paint, which is then fired in a kiln to permanently fuse it to the glass. Glass painting allows for a wide range of artistic expression and is often combined with other techniques like leading or fusing.
-
Glass Fusing
Glass fusing involves layering and melting multiple pieces of glass together in a kiln to create a single, solid piece. This technique allows for the creation of three-dimensional objects, such as bowls, plates, and sculptures, as well as flat panels with intricate designs. Fused glass can be combined with other techniques like painting or slumping to achieve different effects

Enhancing Beauty with Illumination
Stained glass windows possess a unique ability to captivate and enchant, whether basking in the warm glow of natural daylight or illuminated by the gentle radiance of artificial light.
-
Natural Daylight
When exposed to the brilliance of natural daylight, stained glass windows come alive, their vibrant colors and intricate designs dancing in the sun's rays. As sunlight filters through the translucent glass, it creates a kaleidoscope of hues that bathes the surrounding space in a mesmerizing tapestry of color and light.
-
Artificial Light
In the absence of natural daylight, stained glass windows retain their allure when illuminated by artificial light sources. Whether through carefully positioned spotlights, ambient lighting, or integrated light fixtures, artificial light accentuates the depth and detail of the glass, casting luminous shadows and enhancing the overall visual impact.
Installations
The process for installing stained glass windows can vary depending on factors such as the size of the project, the type of installation (new or retrofit), and the condition of the existing structure. Here's a general overview of the installation process:
-
The process typically begins with a consultation between the stained-glass artist and the client to discuss design preferences, measurements, and any structural considerations. The artist creates a design proposal based on the client's requirements and presents it for approval.
-
Once the design is approved, the stained-glass panels are fabricated in the artist's studio using the chosen techniques and materials. This involves cutting and shaping the glass pieces, assembling them using leading or copper foil, and soldering the joints together.
-
Before installation, the installation site is prepared by ensuring that the surrounding area is clean and free of debris. If necessary, existing windows or frames may be removed or modified to accommodate the stained-glass panels.
-
The stained-glass panels are carefully transported to the installation site and positioned according to the design layout. Depending on the type of installation, the panels may be secured in place using a variety of methods, such as mounting brackets, reinforcement bars, or structural supports. We pride ourselves on our ability to adapt stained glass installations to any existing structure, seamlessly integrating artistry with functionality. Whether you're envisioning stained glass for windows, light boxes, ceiling domes, doors, kitchen cabinets, etc.
-
Can be installed into various structures and types of frames, including windows in churches, cathedrals, and other religious buildings, residential homes, particularly in decorative windows or doors, public buildings such as libraries, museums, and government buildings, commercial spaces like restaurants, hotels, and theaters, interior partitions or room dividers. Lampshades or other decorative lighting fixtures. The versatility of stained glass allows it to enhance the aesthetic appeal of many different types of structures and frames.
-
Our experienced team excels at retro fitting stained glass into existing frames and structures, enhancing their aesthetic appeal and imbuing them with a touch of artistic flair. With careful precision and attention to detail, we ensure that each installation harmonizes seamlessly with its surroundings, transforming ordinary spaces into extraordinary works of art.
-
In instances where existing frames and structures may not accommodate stained glass installations, we offer bespoke design and construction services to create new frames and structures tailored to your specifications. Whether crafted from iron, aluminum, or wood, our custom frames and structures are meticulously engineered to support and showcase your stained-glass masterpiece, ensuring longevity and durability for years to come.
-
Once the panels are in place, the seams and joints are sealed to prevent water infiltration and ensure durability. Weatherproofing measures may also be taken to protect the stained glass from environmental elements such as rain, wind, and UV exposure.
-
After installation, any necessary finishing touches are made, such as cleaning the glass surfaces, applying protective coatings or treatments, and adding decorative elements such as trim or molding.
-
A final inspection is conducted to ensure that the installation meets the client's expectations and complies with safety and quality standards. Any remaining adjustments or touch-ups are made as needed.
-
The client is provided with instructions for proper maintenance and care of the stained glass windows, including cleaning methods, recommended cleaning products, and regular inspection schedules.
By following these steps and working closely with the client and any other relevant stakeholders, stained glass artists can ensure a successful installation that enhances the beauty and functionality of the space while preserving the integrity of the artwork.
